Hello My Dear Bloggie Friends . . . .
First off, I want to tell you that I will be completing the giveaway for the yummy winter woolie cowl after the holidays, rather than this week.
In light of the events that have happened in our area, Newtown is our immediate neighbor. My town of Redding is very small, 7000 people. We don't have much in the way of services here, so we go to Newtown. My children went to a Catholic High School in a neighboring town, with so many friends from Newtown . . . our friends, our neighbors.
Most importantly, my daughter Rachel is doing her Student Teaching at Newtown High School this year, in preparation for her Masters Degree from Sacred Heart University. She was on lock down for 3 hours, unable to contact us, and Newtown High School is a single mile from Sandy Hook Elementary. DH and I were away, and watching this unfold on CNN, we were filled with terror.
It's been harrowing, these last few days. Prayers just don't seem enough, there are no words.
I posted this comment on Facebook and wanted to share it here with all of you:
"So Close to Home...My Rach has wanted to be a
teacher since she was in the third grade. Back then, they had 20/20 day,
career day grade wide "what will you be doing in the year 2020?" She
wore a long Navy Blue skirt covered with sunflowers, glasses and a pen
on a lanyard, carrying a notebook. Before she walked out the door she
said "mom, do I look like a teacher?" She did, and this morning, she
headed off to Newtown High School, to grieve and comfort her coworkers
& friends. So proud of my girl. She's stronger than she knows ....."
Signing off until after the new year begins, and wishing for peace in our hearts and in our world. . .
Much Love to you all
Talk Soon, xo P
Oh my. Words can't comfort, really. Prayer can help but never bring those loved ones back. So incredibly sad. All of America feels for your community. Wish there was more we could all do.
ReplyDeleteIT is such a tragic loss, it seems like it is affecting everyone but for you to be so close, and your daughter.....well I don't even have words for that. Bless you all my friend.

I was racking my brain to make sure no one in my blog circle was 'there' on Friday, which sadly, was my birthday. My heart has been so touched and really, I have prayed for families there now since I heard the news. Your daughter is a strong gal, and now, so are you. We continue to keep you all in our prayers!
ReplyDeleteOh my! I'm so sorry. ((HUG))
ReplyDeleteI sort of know how you're feeling...
My hubs worked at Virginia Tech when they had the shootings there. Even though it happened on his day off, it still made a real impact on us and all the neighboring towns. When he returned to work, he was surrounded by media and saw the taped off crimes scenes. When I went to the store, I could *feel* the grief, shock and silence in what was usually a busy, happy place. :( It's a lot to process and the fact that little children were lost in this recent crime makes it doubly hard! God help us all! ♥
Thank you for sharing - its just such an awful terrible evil thing that happened last friday.. it will cause a huge scar in the community and our hearts grieve for them all.. I think your daughter is very brave and kind to be able to go and try and comfort those others. It shocked us all over in the UK and we all pray for life to get better and these things to stop happening.. in the meantime, try and have a happy christmas and treat everyone as we would want to be treated, this is what I believe helps us all to cope.. Hugs from across the pond,Janzi
